From Baby Carriers to Placenta Encapsulation, Seattle’s Child Helps New Parents Make Thoughtful Choices
I wonder who those little toes have grown into.
My contributions to the Fall 2013 issue of Seattle’s Child “A New Arrival” included a listicle-style piece comparing baby carrier types and models, as well as an editorial exploring the practice of placenta encapsulation.
We went with Ergobaby!
One of my favorite parts of being a writer on assignment is all of the new information I get to encounter during the research phase. For example, I’d had 0% prior knowledge of the practice of placenta encapsulation and enjoyed interviewing practitioners in the area (though ultimately the magazine did not endorse the practice.)
Now I might highlight a different appeal of this practice: cultural and/ or spiritual.
For “Holding Them Close," I did have prior experience researching (and using!) baby carriers, which gave me a chance to go deeper into the topic—hopefully to the benefit of new parents making their own selections.
